History
“ Our school is a safe and positive place where teachers challenge, students excel, friendships form, and bright futures are made.”
South Effingham Elementary has had a tradition of excellence since its inception in 1986. The positive energy radiates throughout the building and is evident the moment you walk through the doors. The faculty and staff believe that by providing a culture in which students feel loved, cared for, and enjoy coming to school, they can achieve high levels of learning. South Effingham Elementary is known for having a large school community with tremendous support from community leaders, businesses, parents, and volunteers who are invested in the success of our students. Our community involvement is something to be proud! Mustang Pride is written on the back of each of our student’s shirts. This pride stretches beyond the walls of the classroom and throughout Effingham County.
In 2022 South Effingham Elementary School was recognized as a Visible Learning Certified School and was recognized by researcher John Hattie as only one of ten schools in the entire world to receive this honor.
Visible learning is a mindshift in the approach to learning in which teachers focus on instructional strategies that produce the largest impact on student outcomes. Through clear and explicit learning targets and communicated success criteria, students know what they are learning, why they are learning it, how they know they are successful, and where their learning takes them next. When learning is visible, students are able to set goals, self assess, know when they are successful, use and act on feedback that is given to them during collaborative learning opportunities, and then ultimately teach others the skills they have learned. Through the South Effingham Elementary Student Learner Dispositions, students are taught how to be good learners which accelerates their learning. The practices implemented through Visible Learning at this school help create life-long learners prepared for future success.
